The "Willo House" 3rd & McDowell

I’m glad I found this blog/site and am overjoyed to be able to provide some clarity to what has been said, posted and assumed to be true about the “Willo House” and the new tenants. I personally put together the post cards and business cards that were distributed during the Willo Home Tour. And no, there were no cards were slipped under windshield wipers, they were handed out directly to the many people that were there to be part of the “Willo Home Tour.” For several hours I had the opportunity to meet the district’s homeowners and to get their take on the coffee house re-opening under the “Willo House.” 100% of the people including the board members were ecstatic that the coffee house was reopening in a different lime light; that was friendly to a style of coffeehouse that they wanted to see and frequent on a daily basis.
Mind you, no one can copy the “Willow House” and what they represented in the community at that location, their new location or their future location. What they provide to the community is from the heart and soul, which so many people know nothing about. The new “Willo House” will not be a take off, knock off or by any means a copy of the establishment that was there prior.
The day that I initially walked into the coffee house, I had a very hard time understanding why it was so deteriorated and evidenced “NO” maintenance for many years. I looked at a massive undertaking because it would never meet code. I took many photographs for my scrap book as to show what we started with and what we in turn will finish with; all to add to the distinctiveness of the Willo District. Now if you are in doubt about this, all you will have to do is go to www.willohouse.net and see the pictures that I will be posting next week. I will then be posting more and more as the next few months arrive, showing what the building is evolving into.
After putting together the initial floor plans for the new tenants, the architect, structural engineer and general contractor soon had their work cut out for them.
I hope you will like the two bathrooms, the removed wall from the center room to the old dining room, the added light now getting into the rooms, the new ventilation, the new wood floors, the new plumbing, the new electrical, the new windows, etc, etc, etc.
Rather then going on assuming so much with negativity, stop by when the doors open and visit. If you don’t like the fresh ground coffee, sandwiches, specialty foods, gourmet chocolates, great sound system or the relaxing friendly atmosphere then by all means let me know how we can improve it. Ask for me, my name is Paul.
Although the initial website is basic at best, when the webmaster gets going with the calendar, it will be outlining the different nightly venues.
Oh, one thing I did forget to mention. A great majority of the people I spoke with during the “Willo Home Tour” asked if we would be serving beer and wine during the evening hours. Once the doors are open and the permits secured, we will be offering beer and wine. I look forward to seeing you there and listening to your future comments. pbarzda@willohouse.net.

FYI - the card I got the information from for the initial post WAS put on the windshield, under the wiper, of my husband's 2005 white Lincoln Navigator parked on Palm near 3rd. I was there with him - I saw the card on the windshield, and saw him remove it.
I'm glad someone is taking over the place, and opening a coffee shop. Any viable business in that location will succeed. And I do wish you the best in your endeavors.
Yet, I find it incredibly offensive and TACKY to the Nth degree that the new shop will not have its own new name. Dropping a letter off a name of a business that has been in that location for several decades is just LAME in my opinion, and seems like a deceptive business practice.
For the record, I live on Willetta, within walking distance of the location of the former Willow House.

RE: The name.
Isn't Willo referring to the area or district? The place next door is called Willo Antiques or something, right? So I didn't think it was necessarily referring to/ripping off the old coffeeshop.
I go to the Van Buren Willow House, but I also wish the new place well and plan to check it out whenever it opens.

the name
I think it's is incredably low to use "willo house" as the name. not that using willo is wrong because it is the area but you could call it a number of other things. I think that is incredibly disrespectful. Good for you for trying to put in a nice new place, but have a little class/taste.February 18 2008, 16:55:11 UTC 4 years ago
And there are many businesses that use the name "Willo" in their title.
However, "Willo House" is so similar to "Willow House".
What about "Willo Coffee and Deli" or "Willo Gathering Place" or even "The Willo Hut" or some such?!
There must be some possibility of creative thought here.
